A white 'lard like' substance was washed up on Port Erin beach on Saturday.
Some of it was round and the size of a golf ball and other pieces were approximately one foot square and three or four inches deep.
A team from Port Erin Coastguard searched the beach and removed quantities of the matter.
The coastguard asked people to stay off the beach until the material can be analysed.
