A zebra crossing in Kirk Michael is going back to basics.
The crossing, based in the village on the TT course had been painted red-and-black because the Department of Infrastructure claimed white paint would present a hazard to TT drivers.
A spokesperson said the intention was to create a crossing in a way that worked both for road safety and for road racing.
However, in a u-turn - in a post on social media the DOI says "the contrast between the red and black areas is not as good as we had wanted."
Having consulted with race organisers, the department has confirmed it will now apply the traditional white markings so the crossing can be finished before the start of the school term.
The Department adds it will work with race organisers and monitor grip levels over the winter months to make sure the crossing is safe for next year’s TT races.
