King honours two families of Manx officers killed in line of duty

The family of two Manx police officers who died in the line of duty have been recognised by the King.

The next of kin of Sergeant Jack Cretney and PC Gordon Black were awarded The Elizabeth Emblem, a national recognition for the family of public servants who lost their lives while serving.

Sergeant Cretney was killed in the Winter Hill plane crash near Bolton in 1958, while on his way to represent the police at a trade show.

Eight years later, PC Black died in a crash during a motorcycle patrol in Laxey in 1966.
