Treasury Minister Alex Allinson says keeping the MiCard system for benefits and pensions will cost less than the £500,000 originally thought.
In the House of Keys this week he faced a question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse about the decision to keep the cards, reversing plans to scrap them at the end of this month.
Dr Allinson said 261 people had since moved to having payments into bank accounts, and negotiations to keep MiCards for another year were continuing.
And he added more work was needed before he could give more details:
