Isle of Man to have presence at New York 9/11 memorial service

Danny Dooley and Keith Moore are taking time out during privately funded trips to America to attend the special service of commemoration.

The Isle of Man Fire Service will be represented in New York next Sunday to commemorate the ten-year anniversary of the World Trade Centre terrorist attacks.

Danny Dooley and Keith Moore are taking time out during privately funded trips to America to attend the special service of commemoration.

There has been a regular Manx presence at the annual services that have taken place since the tragedy in 2001, which claimed the lives of 343 fire-fighters and paramedics.

A local courier firm had to step in to ensure both Danny and Keith are able to wear the traditional uniform of a lamb’s wool tunic with military-style marching boots, white helmets, belt and axe.

Chief Fire Officer Brian Draper said: ‘The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service is very proud of its association with the New York City Fire Department'.
