St Georges Church Expected to be Full to Its 600 Capacity
Today’s the day that the Manx Public will say their final goodbyes to comedy legend Sir Norman Wisdom.
Sir Norman had lived on the Island since moving over in the 80s and during his time here had established himself as a much loved community figure.
The funeral is expected to attract thousands of locals wanting to pay their last respects, with this in mind people are asked to plan their trip into Douglas in advance to help ease the inevitable congestion.
Although public transport is advised, for those driving there is additional parking being laid on at the War Memorial on the promenade.
For those wanting to catch a glimpse of the funeral cortege it will travel down from Summerhill, along the Promenades, through Finch Road and Hill Street, it will turn right at the junction with Harris Promenade.
It’s anticipated this will cause congestion between 1.25 and 2.00pm.
St George’s Church will be full to its 600 capacity with crowds expected to gather outside.
The service will get underway at 2.00pm.
After the service Sir Norman’s Bar will be open to the public with a book of condolence for people to sign.
