Island to gift customs boat to Sierra Leone

The Island’s customs boat is setting sail for a warmer climate after being gifted to Sierra Leone by the Isle of Man Government.

The Panther, which has been operated by Customs and Excise since 2003, is now surplus to the requirements of the Island’s maritime law enforcement strategy. 

It leaves the Island with one boat, the Barrule, which will be used as both a fisheries protection and a customs vessel. 

Chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee, Phil Gawne, told 3FM why the Island’s boat was being given away:
