Chief Minister, Howard Quayle MHK, has announced the move following numerous unexplained cases of Covid-19 being identified locally in the last few days.
As a result, from 12.01am on Wednesday, non-essential shops, pubs and restaurants must close, schools will only remain open to vulnerable children or those whose parents are classed as key workers.
Schools will not be returning to the hub system at this time but most pupils will switch to online learning, and officials are asking parents and carers to keep their children at home as much as possible.
Hospitality venues will only be able to offer takeaway services - elsewhere, lifestyle businesses such as hairdressers will have to shut.
Construction work can only continue if it's being carried out outside or in a property that is vacant and as long as social distancing and other health rules are in place.
Social distancing will be in force across the Island and face coverings are highly recommended.
People are asked to stay at home unless it's absolutely essential to go outside and there will be a ban on household mixing.
The exceptions where someone can leave their home include for daily exercise at a safe distance, shopping for food, going to work if you can't do so remotely and to attend medical or vaccine appointments.
The measures will be in place for at least 21 days.
