An Island school has won a UK-wide contest to name an exoplanet and its star.
Cronk Y Berry Primary School has fended off competition from schools and youth groups across Britain to name an exoplanet in the Lynx Constellation along with its host star as part of an initiative celebrating the 100th anniversary of the International Astronomical Union.
Class 4/5G have chosen to call them 'Cruinlagh' and 'Gloas', the Manx Gaelic words for 'orbit' and 'shine'.
Their teacher, Tina Graham, says it's testament to the creativity and talent of the children, adding the Manx culture, language and history 'has now made its way across the stars'.
