'Intelligent' litter bins in the Island's capital have helped Douglas scoop a Keep Britain Tidy award.
Douglas Borough Council has been awarded the Quality Improvement Award 2017 for its bins which have been fitted with analytic sensors.
They detect their rubbish level, and frequency of use, meaning bin emptying can be programmed by demand rather than schedule.
The council says it means its workforce can be deployed 'more effectively' - it's described the award as recognition of its 'pioneering approach' to responsible, energy-efficient waste management.
