It is now illegal for people to carry out teeth whitening on the Isle of Man unless they are a registered dental professional.
The General Dental Council has ruled that the procedure is the business of dentistry and therefore should only by carried out by dentists, hygienists or dental therapists.
The Department of Health says there is evidence to suggest that tooth whitening has been offered on the Island by non-professionals.
It’s now warning beauty salons that they will be at risk of prosecution if they continue to offer the treatment if they aren’t registered with the GDC.
