Rare Sighting of Humpback Whale in Manx Waters
A humpback whale has been spotted off the west coast on the Isle of man.
It’s rare to see the humpbacks in the Irish Sea. The Manx Wildlife trust say it's made its way here from Iceland.
The last sighting of the huge mammal was on Friday, six miles off Peel Castle, it was identified by pictures taken by one of the Manx Basking Shark Watch team.
There hasn't been another sighting since but it's anticipated that it's still in Manx waters.
Given the lack of humpback whale activity in the Irish Sea, it does seem likely that this Isle of Man animal is the same animal observed off Howth Head, Co. Dublin 8 days earlier.
The Wildlide Trust Marine Officer Eleanor Stone has said if anyone comes across the whale whilst in a boat, you're asked to cut your speed and not to hassle it.
If you do see one and capture it on camera you're asked to E-mail your pictures to Eleanor Stone
