Consultation Period Forces Home Affairs to Re-Jig Criminal Justice Bill
Following a public and political consultation the Department of Home Affairs are to remove three proposed new laws.
A revised Criminal Justice Bill will be presented to Tynwald for Approval before the Summer Recess.
When it went out for Public Consultation it received a total of 81 responses submitted by the public.
The proposal to establish hate crime as an offence on the Island received a large amount of concerned feedback; as a result the additional changes are now to be dropped.
A new clause is to be added to the bill extending the penalty for child cruelty from two years to ten years maximum custody.
Also criminal damage and theft have been removed from a list of offences which can be dealt with by issuing a fine.
