Home Affairs Deny Claims Smoking Ban is Reason Crime Figures Are Down

The Department of Home Affairs have refuted reports in the UK press that the prison smoking ban is the reason for falling crime on the Island.

They say despite there being no conclusive research into the link the likelihood of the falling figures is down to increased Neighbourhood Policing.

The smoking ban was introduced initially to protect the health of all of the non smoking inmates and staff in the prison.

In conclusion the department have said the suggestion that the ban was introduced as a crime deterrent is wrong and never a consideration.
