HEAR backs national body in bid to delay pre-natal screening

Anti-abortion campaigners say a new pre-natal test for Down syndrome could lead to women on the Island being pressured to abort their baby. 

HEAR - the Humanity and Equality in Abortion Reform group - says the implementation of the NIPT test for disabilities in unborn children should be delayed. 
 
It says that should be until the Department of Health and Social Care has consulted on the issue and until parents can be guaranteed of 'informed and supportive help'.  
 
HEAR has spoken out in support of the national 'Don't Screen Us Out' campaign which has called on the department to revoke its decision to roll out the test - its spokeswoman is Lynn Murray:
