Head butt assault man to be sentenced this month

A Douglas man who assaulted a fellow reveler in an unprovoked attack outside a nightclub will be sentenced later this month.

20-year-old Andrew Thomson admitted a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm at Douglas Courthouse last week.

He attacked a man he didn't know outside The Courthouse in Douglas on May 23rd - emergency services who attended the scene found him face down, unconscious and bleeding heavily.

Thomson, who had blood on his hands, forehead and shirt, was arrested and told police he "didn't mean to hurt him"; saying he was heavily intoxicated.

The court heard there'd been no provocation and Thomson remembered nothing about the assault apart from head-butting the other man.

A Newton Hearing will take place to agree the facts in the case before sentencing - Thomson will next appear in court on September 22nd.
