Gov't taken to task over Christmas holiday hunger

The problem of holiday hunger will be discussed in the House of Keys this week.

The term is used to describe the plight of low-income families during the holidays whose children are normally eligible for free school meals.

Garff MHK, Daphne Cain will ask what government support is being offered to those in need during the Christmas break.

In 2020 the education department launched a food voucher scheme in the summer holidays to mitigate holiday hunger.

It was scrapped earlier this year despite criticism from the Isle of Man Foodbank.
