The Department for Enterprise says it underwrote tourist events to the tune of a quarter of a million pounds this year.
A Freedom of Information request asked how much cash had been spent on underwriting losses in the last 12 months.
In its response, the department said it had committed £250,375 to underwriting events under its Tourist Development Scheme.
It refused to give individual figures for events, but added they included TT and MGP events - as well as the Manx National Rally.
