The meat plant's future rests in the hands of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.
The department says it will announce a detailed plan for the plant, mapping out proposed ideas for its future, before next year.
So far, a tender process has been unsuccessful in providing a permanent operator for the facility.
The DEFA wants to put a long-term plan in place to make sure the plant is protected and find someone suitable; they're planning a meeting in December.
