The government is seeking views on new build heating proposals.
A consultation has been launched about plans to refuse Building Control approval on applications for new builds and extensions with fossil fuel heating systems.
A ban on these systems in new buildings is set to come into force in 2025, but the government is now looking to encourage this change earlier.
The proposal, which would come into force on August 1, could result in an estimated 62% reduction in CO2 emissions by installing low carbon heating systems instead.
The consultation is aimed at members of the public and the construction industry, and is open until May 12.
