The Chief Minister hopes that Tesco remains committed to supporting local producers.
It comes following the announcement that the supermarket giant has bought all Shoprite stores on the Island.
Alf Cannan says he's saddened by the loss of the local brand, which supported the growth of many local food producers by stocking their products.
He adds that government has expressed its desire to continue this commitment to local suppliers.
It's understood there are a number of staff at risk outside the stores, with Business Isle of Man set to work with Shoprite and Tesco to ensure support is available to those impacted.
However, Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston says Tesco has committed to retain the majority of staff in the immediate term and invest heavily in the existing store network over the next year.
