The Department of Infrastructure says it's delaying new vehicle tax charges until it can brief Tynwald Members.
In Tynwald this week Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer withdrew the item from the agenda before it could be voted on.
The new charging structure - based on how much pollution a vehicle emits - would have seen electric cars completely exempt.
but the vast majority of motorists would have seen increases to their annual bill.
The department says it's postponed consideration of the Vehicle Duty Order to provide further clarity on its proposals.
Mr Harmer says some Tynwald Members still have questions - so he'll brief them about the proposals as well as the alternatives.
