Government has launched a consultation on plans which would allow personal information in one system to be shared across different departments.
The Cabinet Office has considered developing applications which would see customer information such as change of address shared between services.
As it stands, personal data is not automatically passed between separate entities - and this can be inconvenient and time consuming.
Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas explains how this new solution would be helpful:
Rapists's appeal against sentence thrown out
