Government absence levels see 10% drop over past year

Last year the Chief Minister expressed his alarm and concern that staff absence across government was costing £14 million annually.

He set about introducing tough new measures to significantly bring this number down making savings for government in the process.

Most common reasons for absences were stress, anxiety and depression, with operations and hospitalisation also accounting for high levels also.

The Chief Minister concedes the majority of absences were for valid reasons; however he says a small minority were abusing the system.
