Gas exploration prompts climate protest

Climate change protesters are planning a peaceful protest outside the Tynwald buildings.

The Extinction Rebellion demonstration comes as exploration continues into a potential gas field in the island's territorial seas.

Crogga has been granted more time to conduct seismic surveys of the area off Maughold head.

Protesters say the effects of gas extraction on marine life would be "horrifying".

Spokesman, Jordan McCarthy said: "The science is clear; carbon emissions the world over need to be halved by 2030 to have a reasonable chance of stabilising our deteriorating climate.

"I speak for the youth who will be around to see the worst of what's to come.

"We deserve to live our lives without facing disasters that were not our fault," he continued.

The protest will take place between 12.45pm and 02:15 tomorrow (Tuesday).
