Garff commissioners have described moves to expand Ramsey as completely unnecessary and motivated by cash.
An inquiry's being set up about proposals to move the town's boundaries, and Garff's board discussed the moves at a meeting this week.
The commissioners say 100 Glen Auldyn properties which would become part of Ramsey would boost the town's rates, while drastically reducing income in Lezayre.
And despite only a few properties in Garff being affected, the board says it will protect residents who would be forced to pay higher rates for no additional services.
