An online fundraiser set up to pay for the funeral costs of a well-known Island man has reached over £6,000 .
Michael Andrew Thorne, known as "Birdie", died in October at the age of 54.
As he had no savings or remaining family here, friends say they are raising money to give him a proper send off.
