Douglas Council leader, David Christian, has been honoured with the freedom of the borough.
The accolade was confirmed at a special meeting of the council last Friday - after members unanimously agreed the motion.
Councillor John Skinner, who proposed it, says Mr Christian's commitment to the people is 'second to none'.
The leader of the borough was elected to his post in Douglas' centenary year of 1996.
