A former barman has been jailed after burgling the pub he used to work in and stealing £5,000.
James Simon Paul Webb of Clarence Terrace in Douglas appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas Courthouse.
He admitted burglary and possessing cannabis in July, and sending menacing messages over Facebook on August 24.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the hearing the 32 year old let himself into Brendan O'Donnell's on Castle Street in Douglas in the early hours of the morning, trying to avoid CCTV cameras as he walked there carrying a rucksack.
Footage from the pub showed he’d put on latex gloves before taking the money – the next day he blew £1,000 on a shopping spree before being arrested.
He told police he’d thrown the other £4,000 away – something Mr Brooks described as “farcical”, adding he found Webb was thoroughly dishonest.
Webb was jailed for a total of six months, and will have to repay the money he stole at the rate of £10 per week from his benefits when he’s released from prison.
