Chief Minister Alf Cannan says flags flown over government buildings don't have to be Manx - but they do need permission.
In the House of Keys this week he faced a question from Arbory, Casltetown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse about alternative flags on government flagpoles.
Mr Cannan said updated rules were issued in April this year saying government buildings should predominantly fly Manx flags, but there were no restrictions on other flags being displayed.
He explained anyone wanting to fly a different flag needed permission from either the Chief Secretary or himself.
