The Island’s Fire Safety Team have issued a plea to the Manx Public to take extra precaution when lighting outdoor fires in the sunny weather.
It comes after the fire crews were called out to a bonfire that had gone awry at Knockaloe Beg last night.
A large quantity of tyres were on the fire and the dry surrounding ground had caused the blaze to spread.
The fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and spent an hour afterwards damping down the area.
Members of the public are now asked to contact the fire safety team prior to lighting a bonfire, there are other things like the weather conditions and how long the surrounding grass is that need to be taken into consideration.
You’re also asked to ensure that there is a clear 18-metre area surrounding the fire.
