Speedy Response to Washing Machine Fire Due to Fire Alarm
Fire crews in Douglas were called out to a basement fire on Kensington Road yesterday afternoon.
The blaze was the result of an overheated washing machine.
Crews were able to ventilate the area quickly and 2 fire fighters extinguished the blaze stopping the spread before it could cause any real damage.
In light of the near miss the fire safety team have issued a reminder to householders across the Island to always ensure devices like washing machines and tumble dryers are not left running when they shouldn’t.
Working fire alarms are also a necessity; in this instance if it wasn’t for the alarm the homeowner wouldn’t have been notified to the blaze quickly enough.
