A Ballasalla man has been fined £800 after throwing a rock through the door of a local shop - despite having no recollection of committing the offence.
39-year-old Kenneth Hunter, of Douglas Road, caused more than £2,000 worth of damage at Ye Olde Bakery on or about October 28th last year.
Police were called to the scene in the early hours of the morning following reports that the alarm had sounded - forensic testing confirmed blood at the scene belonged to Hunter.
At Douglas Courthouse last week Hunter admitted causing criminal damage - a charge of attempted burglary was withdrawn.
The court heard he couldn't remember the incident due to taking a cocktail of medication and alcohol the night before.
Hunter's advocate told the court he was 'deeply remorseful' adding: "He didn't set out in his own mind to deliberately do this."
Sentencing Hunter Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered him to pay £2,300 in compensation as well as prosecution costs of £125.
