A learner drive who crashed his car after deciding to drive it to a garage in a 'moment of madness' has been fined.
26-year-old Joshua Gardner wrote off his Mazda on August 4th after crashing on Crogga Hill on the Old Castletown Road.
At the time he didn't have a driving licence, insurance or tax - all offences he admitted at Douglas Courthouse last week.
His advocate told the court he'd purchased the vehicle a few weeks earlier and had decided to take it for a service saying 'he took a chance - a chance that he very much regrets'.
The court was told no one else was involved in the collision, Gardner had suffered no injuries and the car had been scrapped as a result.
Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him the consequences of his actions could have been 'more serious than they were'.
She fined him £550, ordered him to pay costs of £50 and endorsed his licence with eight penalty points telling him 'you need to be very careful in the future'.
