Experts warn of new dangerous legal high, 'mexxy'

Experts are warning of a new legal high on the drug scene that is readily available on the internet.

Methoxetamine, or 'mexxy' as its known has been misleadingly marketed as a safe substitute for ketamine, and seen its popularity throughout Europe boom over the last six months.

Although officials on the Isle of Man say there is no evidence of its usage here, it's anticipated that it will make an appearance, with a call issued for people to steer well clear of it.

It's reported that the substance can lead to the same crippling side effects as it's illegal counterpart, like bladder cramps which can result in the full time necessity of catheter bags.

It's popularity lies in its low cost, but it is also said to be deceptively strong, often resulting in over dosage.

The UK's Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs are currently closely monitoring the situation.
