Event to remember female TT competitor

An event to celebrate the first solo woman to race at the TT will take place in her home town later this year.

Beryl Swain raced in 1962, but a bike problem meant she finished in 22nd place.

Shocked by a woman competitor, organisers revoked her licence to prevent other women taking part - a situation which lasted until 1978 when Hilary Musson was allowed to race.

The 1B Window Gallery in Walthamstow will tell the story of her career, using one of her helmets, archive film, and photos from Saturday, June 1.
