Electricity has been cut to a small part of Victoria Street after a JCB extracted a mains cable left underground for up to 100 years.
The MEA says a third party caused the damage that resulted in a cut to pubs and businesses on one side of the road from the Nags Head to the Jubilee Clock.
Engineers will be heading down to the site at 6pm so that any noise won’t effect other trading businesses on the street.
They say the work may only take three to four hours.
