Minister Praises Financial Boost, But Says Tough Times Still Lie Ahead
It was revealed in yesterday’s budget that the Department of Education and Children are set to get a small boost to their student grant award scheme.
One of the two changes to taxation will see the removal of Tax relief on new Educational Deeds of Covenant with the money reallocated to the scheme.
It’s estimated the move will bring an additional £150,000 to the Department.
There’s currently a lot of uncertainty surrounding the grant system as fees are set to potentially soar now Universities have the power to set them.
Minister Eddie Teare has said members of his Department will be meeting with University Representatives in the coming weeks, but so far they’ve been receiving very mixed messages from them.
