The Department of Infrastructure says changing the way driving tests are scheduled will make the system more efficient.
Tests for HGVs, motorbikes and buses will now be held on certain days of the week from the middle of next month.
3,000 driving tests are held each year - more than 80 per cent of them are for cars.
Minister Ray Harmer says grouping the tests by vehicle type will make the system more efficient and cut waiting times.
