Driving ban for man who crashed 'morning after the night before'

Douglas Courthouse

A Port Erin man who crashed his car after driving "the morning after the night before" has been disqualified from driving.

20-year-old Cameron Watterson called police just before 6am on November 21st after ending up in a ditch on Crossag Road in Ballasalla.

He managed to retrieve the vehicle but waited with it until officers arrived - under standard procedure a roadside breath test was carried out which he failed.

At Douglas Courthouse this week Watterson's advocate said he'd been socialising with friends the night before and had returned home and gone to bed before making the journey to work the next morning.

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said he'd driven too soon after consuming alcohol adding "you've fallen into the trap so many people fall into - especially at this time of year".

She fined him £875 and disqualified him for two years.
