Police say more than two-thirds of vehicles stopped last night had defects.
Officers were at Dhoon School carrying out winter checks as part of Operation Uplift.
They say of 16 vehicles stopped, 11 had some sort of problem with lights, tyres, or wing mirrors.
They also seized an untaxed car and arrested its driver, who failed a drugs test.
