A drink-driver who crashed his Bentley into a woman's car in Andreas before driving off has been ordered to pay more than £13,500 in damages.
Michael John Swift crashed into the woman at 1pm on November 2021, and was later convicted of drink-driving after he was found to be more than two-and-a-half times over the limit when police arrested him at a nearby garage.
Representing himself in civil court, he claimed the woman had exaggerated her injuries and had driven into his car causing £70,000 worth of damage.
After hearing Swift had been drinking heavily that morning, Deemster Needham said his evidence was a product of booze, poor memory and supposition.
In his judgment, He awarded the woman £10,000 for physical and psychological injuries as well as almost £3,500 in special damages.
