Drink drive convictions on steady decline

The Home Affairs Minister, Juan Watterson, has today delivered a break down of roadside alcohol level screening tests, carried out since 2007.

He was answering a question put to him by Onchan MHK, Zack Hall.

He said although it is impossible to establish exact numbers of people breathalised,  there needed to be 161 subsequent blood tests.

Each year roughly around 30 people have been tested, with 34 last year representing the biggest figure.

Minister Watterson said there has been a marked decline in numbers of people being convicted of drink driving over the 5 year period, with 2011's numbers showing a 40% drop on 2007's.
