Dramatic rescue as young boy is swept out to sea

Peel Lifeboat says a dramatic rescue operation yesterday could have easily ended up with tragic results.

The lifeboat crew were called to the rescue of a young boy, believed to be between four and six,  who had been swept out to sea. 

The child had been on the beach in the Glen Wyllin area with his mother, when the four foot kayak he was in drifted two miles off shore. 

A local fishing vessel which was in the area managed to recover the boy, who was not wearing a lifejacket, along with a campsite warden from Glen Wyllin who had launched his own kayak to try and help. 

Both were transferred to the lifeboat and returned to Peel and the boy’s mother was reunited with her son. 

Mal Kelly from Peel Lifeboat said this incident has highlighted the real dangers of strong offshore winds:
