The Mayor of Douglas, Jon Joughin, will continue the post for the 2019-2020 municipal year.
The decision was announced in a special private meeting of Douglas Borough Council late last week.
Mr Joughin signalled his intention to accept the office if it's confirmed at the annual council meeting on Wednesday, May 8.
He was born in Edinburgh but has been an Island resident for over 54 years, and has previously served as a councillor and an MHK for Douglas East.
