A drunk man who boasted police weren’t strong enough to detain him was sprayed with incapacitant spray to subdue him.
Christopher James Christian of Sumark Croft in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The 37 year old admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and resisting police on July 20.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court Christian had been asked to leave the Spar shop on Bucks Road in Douglas at around 6.30pm over an allegation one of his friends had been shoplifting.
Christian became abusive and aggressive, and when staff called police he struggled with them as they tried to put him in a van and take him into custody.
The court heard he had numerous previous convictions and was on probation at the time.
Magistrates ordered him to spend two years on probation, carry out 80 hours of community service and pay £125 costs.
