A Freedom of Information request to the Department of Infrastructure has uncovered how much weight linkspans in Douglas harbour can take.
The request asked for details on Douglas as well as Heysham - but the DOI says it doesn't own the UK facility and so doesn't have that information.
But it says one linkspan in Douglas can take 160 tonnes while the other can carry 100 tonnes - working out at roughly 145 American Bison and half a blue whale respectively.
The department says because of the age of the linkspans, there are no maximum load capacity figures, only what has been assigned to them.
