Douglas council has announced a 12.5 per cent rates rise this year.
At the annual rate-setting meeting, councillors voted to set rates at 573 pence in the pound, a rise of 64p on last year's figure.
Council Leader Claire Wells said the rate had been as "responsible and economical as possible".
She also called for the government to come up with long-term strategies for pay and rent to make planning easier.
