Douglas and Braddan to fund kerbside collection scheme from November

It will cost Douglas £85,000 with Braddan having to stump up £22,000 until the end of the 2011-2012 financial year.

The kerbside collection service in Douglas and Braddan will continue from November 1st funded exclusively by the Commissioners for the two areas.

The Department of Local Government and Environment, and latterly the Department of Infrastructure, have funded the scheme for the past three years.

That comes to an end on 31st October with Douglas and Braddan taking over from then on, Onchan decided to withdraw from the scheme.

It will cost Douglas £85,000 with Braddan having to stump up £22,000 until the end of the 2011-2012 financial year.

Council leader for Douglas, David Christian has said, 'While it is regrettable that Onchan has elected not to continue the service I am confident that between Douglas and Braddan we shall be able to promote a culture of sustainable waste management and encourage even more households to adopt the practice of reduce, reuse, recycle.’
