The Department of Infrastructure says it's already bought 20mph signs for Douglas and Onchan - but won't reveal how much they cost.
A Freedom of Information request asked if signs for the proposed 20mph speed limit zones in all residential areas have been purchased, and at what cost.
In its response the DOI says it's bought and installed signs in Port St Mary, and also has signs ready for Douglas and Onchan.
But it says the cost of the signs is commercially sensitive and revealing the price could affect future negotiations when it buys more.
